Order Out Of Emergency (Update)

On Thursday, the Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, announced a state of emergency and deployed 1,000 National Guard troops in response to ongoing violent demonstrations in Atlanta after a shooting occurred near a disputed law enforcement training site, resulting in injury to a state trooper and death of a man. The emergency measure will remain in place until February 9 unless extended by the Governor.

The footage of the police encounter that resulted in the death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis will be available to the public on Friday evening. The decision to release the video is in the hands of the City of Memphis. The officers involved in the incident, which led to Nichols' beating and death, have been arrested and held in the Shelby County Jail. Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith were all fired from the Memphis Police Department last Friday in connection to Nichols' death, which occurred during a traffic stop in January.
