  Reparations News   Florida Senator Blaise Ingoglia proposed a constitutional amendment to ban reparations for slavery descendants in Florida. If passed by the legislature and approved by 60% of voters, the amendment would prevent state and local governments from compensating descendants of enslaved individuals before December 6, 1865. This proposal follows Florida's past reparations, like paying Rosewood massacre survivors and their descendants. Ingoglia, known for his controversial "Ultimate Cancel Act" against the Democratic Party, aims to add this amendment to Florida's constitution (Florida Senate, 2023) .     Florida is continuing its ongoing campaign of anti-blackness and anti-wokenness, and that is the norm to be expected. Bronx Family Calls For Justice   A woman named Karen Ivery caused a scene at a Target store in Ohio when she demanded reparations from the store's manager while checking out her $1,000 grocery bill. The police report stated that Ivery repeatedly brought up the topic of reparations and became increasingly angry and aggressive toward the manager. A loss prevention officer, Zach Cotter, tried to calm her down, but she followed him to his office and forced her way in. A surveillance video showed Cotter punching Ivery in the face, causing her to fall to the floor.   Systemic racism refers to racial discrimination in society's policies, practices, and institutions. It can take many forms, including discriminatory laws and procedures and implicit biases held by individuals in positions of power (Alexander, 2010). One of the most significant ways systemic racism has affected Black Americans is through the criminal justice system. Black men, in particular, have been disproportionately targeted by law enforcement and the criminal justice system, leading to high arrests, convictions, and incarceration rates. Referred to as "mass incarceration." For example, despite comprising only 13% of the US population, Black men represent 34% of the prison population. And once incarcerated, the sentence they receive is usually longer than those of white men convicted of similar crimes.
